The 37-year-old Romanian driver was apprehended by police officers during a routine traffic stop on Saturday when an inspection of the lorry revealed several barrels of fuel, reports local press.

“During the investigation, several barrels with lids were found in the lorry, containing approximately 1,000 litres of diesel. Investigations revealed that the suspect had stolen this quantity from the HGV’s tank between March and 27 May this year,” a press release from the police states.

According to the police, the stolen fuel was allegedly stored at the suspect’s home. On the day of his arrest, the driver had decided to take the fuel to another place when he was intercepted by police.

The arrest followed a complaint by the operator of a company based in Cărpiniș, Brasov County. The administrator reported to the police on 27 April that an employee was stealing diesel from a truck in his fleet.

The investigation into the case of the Romanian truck driver in Brasov is ongoing and further legal proceedings will follow in due course.
