Following the news of an E.M.Rogers truck being attacked by migrants in Calais on Friday morning, images have emerged of several other lorries that were similarly attacked in Calais on the same day.
Photos uploaded to a Romanian Facebook group yesterday show what appears to be an Italian truck that was pelted with objects in the early hours of Friday morning.
The truck’s windscreen managed to ‘survive’ multiple hits without completely falling apart, but unfortunately the same can’t be said for the vehicle’s door window.
Meanwhile, a Polish driver has told a local French newspaper of how he feared for his life during the attack, which he says involved migrants building a roadblock using pieces of wood and throwing objects at oncoming trucks.
In the aforementioned article, the Polish driver’s truck is also pictured smashed up alongside another lorry that had suffered the same fate.
Speaking to lavoixdunord.fr, the driver, named Ryszard, gave his account of the attack:
I have been working in road transport for years and this is the first time that this has happened to me. That night, I was going to the port. At 3:10 am, while I was about a mile from the harbor, I saw a group of at least 100 people. At first I thought a bus had broken down and people were waiting for it to be repaired. But I quickly realized that they were migrants. Once the trucks stopped, they threw stones at the vehicles. Honestly, I was scared for my life.
It is said that as many as ten trucks were damaged during the migrant attack. Ryszard also told the French media that there was no police presence, and claimed that the attackers were later released:
There was no one there! I’ve been going to England for ten years. Yesterday I expected there to be more police and there was nobody. The worst part is that they haven’t arrested anyone. They released them. This is not normal.
