Italian trade unions oppose the liberalization of EU rules governing drivers’ working and rest time. Strikes are also organized by public transport employees. Traffic jams are possible in some Italian cities.
Trade unions in the transport industry FILT CGIL, FIT CISL, FAISA-CISAL, Uil Trasporti and UGL Trasporti are organizing a strike today between 11 am and 3 pm. This is another protest this year – the Italians have already organized a similar action on January 14 and 15.

This time not only truckers but also public transport employees will protest. The reason for the protests, as trade unionists explain, are the EU rules on driving time and rest periods. Italian drivers are against liberalization of the regulations currently in force. According to them, it will lead to a significant deterioration of working conditions in the industry.
