Foton, a subsidiary of the BAIC Group, shares a mutual interest with Iveco Group in promoting environmentally friendly practices within the automotive sector. Their collaborative efforts focus on the development and implementation of various new energy technologies, such as pure electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cells, particularly for commercial vehicles.

The partnership forms a key part of Iveco Group’s strategy to expand its light commercial vehicle range below the GVW 3.5-ton threshold. This includes introducing electric models such as chassis cabs and panel vans. The collaboration will leverage IVECO’s sales channels for the commercialisation of an electric panel van in the sub-3.5-ton category across Europe and South America.

Earlier this year, Iveco Group signed a supply agreement with Hyundai Motor Company for an electric chassis cab in the 2.5-3.5-ton range to be sold in Europe. These partnerships with Foton and Hyundai aim to build a comprehensive line-up of electric commercial vehicles weighing less than Iveco’s iconic DAILY range (3.5-7.2 tons).
