Italian truck and van manufacturer Iveco say they are to launch a new on-board vocal truck driver companion built on Amazon’s Web Services technology and Amazon Alexa.
Iveco say the system will allow drivers to “vocally manage” their route planning, check the vehicle’s maintenance and health status, as well as request driving tips. In addition, the voice service can operate cab controls, which would allow drivers to remain focused on the road.
The new tech has been designed by Iveco’s digital team along with the support of AWS Professional Services, and uses AWS machine learning, voice, security and serverless technologies.
Fabrizio Conicella, Digital lead at IVECO, says the new system “fundamentally changes” the way drivers can interface with vehicles:
“By leveraging the breadth of AWS’s portfolio, IVECO has been able to innovate and deliver in record time a new service that fundamentally changes the way drivers can interface with our vehicles and our drivers’ community. The new voice service from IVECO underpins the company’s future digital strategy as it strives to offer a completely new way for drivers to perform their tasks in an interactive way while raising the level of safety and comfort.”
Will the new system prove a handy tool? Or perhaps it is a needless annoyance? let us know your thoughts in the comments.
