 June lorry bans in Europe

In June, several countries in the European Union will observe public holidays, resulting in restrictions on lorry traffic. In addition, one region of France will have a special lorry ban to mark an important anniversary.

At the end of May, many European countries celebrate Corpus Christi. In June, on the other hand, Italy and Slovenia celebrate public holidays. In addition to the usual weekend restrictions, here’s a breakdown of upcoming truck bans. 

29 May (Wednesday)

Croatia: 15:00 to 23:00 – Traffic bans apply to trucks and convoys with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 7.5 tonnes and trucks and vehicles with trailers longer than 14 metres.

Poland: 18:00 to 22:00 – Trucks with a GVW over 12 tonnes.

30 May (Thursday)

Austria (Corpus Christi Day): 00:00 to 22:00 – Restrictions apply to tractors with trailers where the tractor or trailer GVW exceeds 3.5 tonnes, and trucks and articulated vehicles with a GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

Croatia (Statehood Day): 14:00 to 23:00

Luxembourg (Corpus Christi): 00:00 to 21:45 – Bans on the movement of heavy goods vehicles with or without trailers exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

Germany (Corpus Christi): 00:00 to 22:00 – Only in the states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland.

As Corpus Christi is a holiday in North Rhine-Westphalia but not in Lower Saxony, an exception has been made for lorries with a maximum permissible weight of more than 7.5 tonnes, allowing commercial or paid transport of goods (including empty journeys) between 00:00 and 22:00 along the following routes:

  • A1 motorway: From the Lotte/Osnabrück motorway junction through part of Lower Saxony to the border with North Rhine-Westphalia at the Osnabrück Nord motorway junction, and in the opposite direction.
  • A2 motorway: From the Bad Oeynhausen motorway interchange to the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony at the Bad Eilsen motorway interchange, and in the opposite direction.
  • A30 motorway: From the border between Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia at the Rheine Nord junction to the state border at the Hasbergen-Gaste junction, and from the border of the aforementioned Länder at the Bruchmühlen junction to the Bad Oeynhausen motorway junction (A2 motorway), and in the reverse direction.

Poland: 08:00 to 22:00

Italy: 12:00 to 22:00 – The country has banned vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on the Brennero motorway (A22) between Vipiteno and the border with Austria (northbound).

2 June (Sunday)

Italy (Republic Day): 07:00 to 22:00 – Traffic ban for heavy goods vehicles weighing 7.5 tonnes or more.

6 June (Thursday)

France: 06:00 to 22:00 – Ban on vehicles heavier than 7.5 tonnes and vehicles carrying dangerous goods on the public roads of the Calvados department in north-west France.

25 June (Tuesday)

Slovenia (Independence Day): 08:00 to 22:00 – Bans apply to heavy goods vehicles and vehicle combinations over 7.5 tonnes.

Summer traffic bans in Poland

From 21 June (Friday), the start of the Polish summer holidays, summer traffic restrictions for lorries will come into force. Lorries over 12 tonnes will not be allowed on Polish roads during this period:

  • Fridays: 18:00 to 22:00
  • Saturdays: 08:00 to 14:00
  • Sundays: 08:00 to 22:00
