The Kosovo government has lifted the import ban at the Merdare border crossing with Serbia, which had been in place since July 2023 for alleged “security reasons”. The move, which came into effect last week, is expected to ease the movement of goods between the two countries, although there will now be stricter controls for trucks at the border, reports the Association of International Road Transport Companies of Austria (AISÖ).
Other border crossings between Serbia and Kosovo are also expected to open to truck traffic, but this will only happen once modern vehicle screening scanners, provided by Germany, the US, and the EU, are installed. AISÖ says that this process could take several months.
