The upgrades include a new gate system and terminal operating system designed to streamline cargo movements and enhance the efficiency of drop-offs and pick-ups. Additionally, the widening of a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) linkspan will allow the terminal to accommodate larger, more environmentally friendly vessels.
The investment supports CLdN’s plans to increase capacity on its Liverpool-Dublin route, where the company currently operates 17 return sailings per week. The terminal also serves as a transhipment hub for cargo from Spain.
As part of the development, several new jobs have been created, and CLdN is collaborating with a local college to introduce technical apprenticeships.
“This upgrade to our Liverpool terminal is part of a wave of major investments by CLdN in our UK port infrastructure. The investment will provide tangible benefits to customers, create opportunities for skilled jobs in Liverpool and further reduce the carbon intensity of our operations by allowing larger ships to be deployed on the Liverpool-Dublin route,” stated Florent Maes, Chief Executive Officer of CLdN.
