Newspapers in Slovakia have reported how a fraudster who had “lost all judgment” tried to get away with changing a MAN truck’s odometer to reduce its recorded distance by 931,595 kilometres.
Data regarding mileage has been recorded for over 3 years in Slovakia’s national register of vehicle traffic records. The aforementioned truck, which dates back to 2007, is the current record holder in that no other vehicle has had its odometer value modified to this extent.
The previous recorded holder was a Ford Transit that had had its odometer reversed by 541,630 kilometres.
As data from Slovakia’s ‘Technical service of originality control' department shows, the truck’s mileage grew consistently year-on-year until spring 2019, when the odometer suddenly dropped to the level it was around 8 years earlier.
