The application, called Madrid DUM 360, can be installed via the Google Play and Apple Stores. There are 2,660 loading and unloading areas on the system, as well as 8,219 parking spaces.
Each of these spaces has a specific sign, a unique identification number, and a QR code that will allow logistics staff to download the Madrid DUM 360 application.
It isn’t obligatory to use the system until September 25th. However, Fenadismer has advised its members that it is time to start using the application and to get to grips with it.
Besides using the app to book a spot for unloading or loading, carriers shall also need to use it to register their vehicles.
When booking a loading or unloading spot, virtual tickets will be sent to users to present in the event of an inspection. These tickets will typically be valid for 45 minutes, but can be extended to 67 minutes depending on the vehicle.
One benefit of the system is the possibility of seeing what spaces are available to commercial vehicles in Madrid city centre in real time. Users are asked to confirm via the app that they have left the space vacant so that others know it is available.
The reservation of the space can be made when you are already parked in it or at a distance of less than 30 meters from it.
The backers of the system claim it will reduce traffic congestion caused by the extra miles commercial vehicles cover when a driver struggles to find spaces to load or unload.
