Maersk joins forces with South Korean tyre manufacturer

Maersk has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kumho Tire concerning a strategic partnership between the two companies. The main focus of the cooperation is to use Maersk's expertise in global transport and logistics and Kumho Tire's strength in the automotive sector to revolutionise the latter's supply chain management.

Under the agreement, Maersk commits to providing its fourth-party logistics (4PL) visibility solution for a period of five years. This solution is intended to enhance the efficiency and visibility of Kumho Tire’s supply chain. 

Additionally, Maersk will offer domestic intermodal services for three years as part of this collaboration.

The partnership involves Maersk managing a substantial volume of over 40,000 FFE (40-foot equivalent) units per year, starting from 2024. 

Wan-Ju Lim, Executive Director of Kumho Tire’s Management Planning Division, expressed the company’s satisfaction with the partnership, stating,

Kumho Tire is pleased to cooperate with Maersk as a logistics partner. Through this agreement, we will continue to strive to provide services that can increase customers’ convenience and satisfaction based on a stable and efficient logistics system.

Toru Nishiyama, Managing Director of Maersk Northeast Asia, emphasized the significance of the extended collaboration:

 The expansion of collaboration reflects Kumho Tire’s recognition of our expertise in delivering end-to-end logistics solutions that cater to their evolving business needs.
