Maritime Transport acquired by Swiss logistics giant MEDLOG

Integrated road and rail freight logistics provider Maritime Transport has been acquired by MEDLOG S.A., the road and rail logistics arm of the Swiss-based global supply chain provider, MSC Group. The acquisition was finalised on 2 September 2024.

 The acquisition of Maritime Transport, a company with a 23-year history, will see the retention of its brand name and the continuation of its current senior management team, led by Executive Chairman John Williams. The transaction price has not been disclosed.

In a statement following the acquisition, Williams expressed optimism for the future under MEDLOG ownership:

“We are really pleased to have secured the long-term future of the business as part of an independent, global logistics organisation capable of providing the continued investment to help us with our exciting plans to develop the Company for all our stakeholders,” said Williams. He added, “In MEDLOG, we share a common heritage, culture, values and understanding and we look forward to their support in realising the full potential of Maritime and our commitment to our valued employees, customers and suppliers.”

Maritime Transport has grown substantially since its inception, now employing 3,000 people across 41 sites in the UK. The company offers a range of logistics services, including container transport and storage, domestic distribution, freight management, and truck sales.

With MEDLOG’s backing, Maritime is set to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation, with plans that include the introduction of new battery electric trucks and the operation of its rail terminals on an open-access basis.
