The ICC will be built on an existing 250,000 square metre industrial site with 130,000 square metres of usable space. It will serve as a central hub for the consolidation of vehicle components for Mercedes-Benz’s global production network, with a focus on environmental responsibility.

Sustainability is a key element of the project, states the developer Panattoni. Construction materials from the former building will be recycled and reused, while the logistics centre itself will be built to the highest “platinum” standard set by the German Association for Sustainable Construction (DGNB).

Transport will also be optimised, with short-haul lorry routes converted to electric vehicles and a reactivated rail connection used for long-distance deliveries.

The Bischweier site was chosen for its proximity to Mercedes-Benz facilities in Rastatt and Kuppenheim, as well as its excellent transport connections. The new logistics centre is expected to create around 500 jobs, further boosting the Murgtal region’s economy.
