In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a migrant suffered a suspected fractured foot after a falling from a truck he had tried to break into to make the journey from France to England.

According to La Voix du Nord, the truck was parked in one of the rest areas in the Transmarck zone, circled in yellow in the map below.

The aforementioned newspaper says the rest area is often targeted by migrants and people smugglers, particularly when conditions make sea-crossings difficult.

After suffering a suspected fracture in his foot, the migrant was transported to a Calais hospital.

The news follows the 6-month closure of four motorway rest areas on the A16 near Dunkirk, a decision the authorities took to prevent migrants getting onboard trucks bound for the UK.

According to France Bleu, the rest stops at Beau Marais, Saint Georges sur l’Aa, Téteghem-Nord and Moëres have all been shut down for half a year.

The decree specifies “that it is essential to regulate the movement on the rest areas (concerned) in particular because of the migratory pressure”.

Back in April, the Saint-Laurent and Grande-Synthe lorry parks were closed for 2 months for the same reason.
