Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has announced the development of its first charging hub in Zaragoza, Spain. This marks Spain as Milence’s eighth market and reaffirms its commitment to creating Europe’s largest public charging network for heavy-duty electric vehicles.
The charging hub is situated in the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (PlaZa), one of Spain’s most significant logistics areas. This strategic location in the capital of the Aragon region offers easy access to major transport routes, including the A2 motorway and Zaragoza airport. Zaragoza is recognised as a vital logistics hub in Europe, linked to two major TEN-T corridors: the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. These corridors enhance connectivity across southern and northern Europe, supporting the efficient distribution of goods.
The hub’s development will occur in two phases. The first phase, expected to be operational in the first half of 2025, will feature four high-performance Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers, serving up to four bays. The second phase will introduce additional charging bays, including Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers. The hub will also provide on-site amenities such as toilets and showers to ensure a comfortable experience for drivers.
Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, expressed enthusiasm about the new hub, stating,
“I am delighted to see the development of our first charging hub in Spain at the Zaragoza Logistics Platform, a strategic location at the heart of the Spanish logistics industry. Zaragoza’s importance as a logistics hub makes it an ideal choice for our continued investment in Europe’s largest public charging network.”
Van Niersen further emphasised Milence’s commitment to scaling up the transition to electric heavy-duty vehicles, working closely with partners like the Government of Aragon to achieve this vision.
