Police stop “absolutely unroadworthy” lorry with over a million km on the clock

Road police officers in Brandenburg discovered a lorry on Monday with serious defects that made the vehicle obviously unroadworthy. The truck's driver ended up being fined €3,000 as a result of the vehicle's poor condition, as well as drivers' hours rules violations.

In a press release on its website, Brandenburg Police said that officers from its special surveillance group came across the Polish-registered lorry and its 55-year-old driver at the Herzsprung rest area on the A24.

It turned out the driver had been behind the wheel for over 13 hours without a recorded break.

As for the driver’s vehicle, its brakes and exhaust system were both broken. The police add that a lorry inspector had classified the vehicle as “absolutely roadworthy”. Given the truck had a milage of over 1,140,000 km, it perhaps isn’t a surprise.

The driver was prohibited from continuing his journey in the truck and was fined €3,000.
