Steve Schiltz, from Swansea, explained to the Daily Mirror that he had kept his huge wealth a secret from his colleagues, who were completely unaware he had won the lottery.

Mr Schlitz said that he decided to take up his profession once again after receiving a letter from the UK Government regarding the driver shortage. He was also inspired by his wife, who continued as a social care trainer despite the lottery win.

Mr Schlitz thus took up the chance to drive lorries for Lidl across Wales and the West Country during the pandemic.

He told the Daily Mirror:

“I used to be a lorry driver before winning the lottery and I had a letter asking me to go back. Lots of people with an HGV licence had the same letter from the Government but not many of them were lottery millionaires. It made me a key worker and I didn’t think twice – I was happy to help out and it was brilliant to be back in work. It meant that instead of money coming out of the bank account we had money coming in!”
