The reopening of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, initially planned for December 18, has been accelerated by three days. The tunnel was oficially reopened on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 4 p.m.
According to tunnelmb.net, the technical maintenance activities, which commenced on October 16, have required the intensive efforts of over 200 individuals and 50 contractors, with a total investment of €20 million.
Vehicle circulation through the Mont Blanc Tunnel has been reinstated at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, following the conclusion of tests to ensure the functionality of all safety systems. On Monday, December 18, 2023, at 5 p.m., the annual safety exercise, conducted under the supervision of the Italian and French Prefecture authorities, will occur, engaging over 130 participants from Italy and France.
To facilitate this exercise, a 5-hour traffic disruption will be implemented from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023.
