A new application released by Germany’s state motorway authority displays important traffic information regarding congestion, accidents, construction sites and truck parking spaces.
The new app, free to download, was presented earlier this week in Cologne. For the first time, traffic and infrastructure information, as well as other data relating to the German motorways, has been made accessible in a single application. The creators of the app say other features will be added to it in the future.
At this moment in time, the app’s core functions are as follows:
- The option to set up personalized routes on which all traffic reports are displayed, such as closures and roadworks
- The locations and types of e-charging stations available
- Information on rest areas and parking spaces as well as what facilities they offer
- Access to over 1,000 webcams along the motorways
With the new app, we are living up to our vision of a user-friendly, digital motorway. The Autobahn app appeals to users who are looking for more reliable information about the motorways in addition to the possibilities of their navigation app. Our aim is to make driving on the Autobahn even more convenient for everyone with the app,” says Stephan Krenz, Chairman of the Management Board of the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes.
The app can be downloaded from today; it works on both iOS and Android devices. It is constantly being developed, is free of charge and also free of advertising.
