Ford Trucks and IVECO have signed a Joint Development Agreement to design and engineer a new heavy-duty truck cabin. The project, with a total estimated cost of €343 million, follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2024. Production of the new cabins is expected to begin in 2028.
The agreement formalises cooperation between the two manufacturers, allowing them to co-develop a modular truck cabin. Each company will manufacture and assemble the cabin at its own facilities and market it under its respective brand.
The new cabin will be designed to comply with the EU’s Direct Vision Standard, incorporating advanced safety features alongside improved aerodynamics to enhance efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Its modular design will allow for flexibility in production and customization, while ensuring full compatibility with multiple powertrain options, including traditional and alternative energy sources.
“This Joint Development Agreement is a testament to our capability to design and develop cutting-edge solutions that not only meet but exceed the industry’s evolving standards. By joining forces with IVECO, we are enhancing our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance cabins that will set new benchmarks in safety, aerodynamics, and driver comfort, all while ensuring cost efficiency and regulatory compliance,” said Emrah Duman, Vice President of Ford Trucks
Luca Sra, President of IVECO’s Truck Business Unit, added:
“By sharing engineering expertise and combining our strengths, we will create a product that sets new standards in safety, efficiency, quality, and driver comfort. This agreement is a strategic move that will allow both IVECO and Ford Trucks to remain at the forefront of the market, well-prepared to comply with new regulations and deliver exceptional quality and value to our customers.”
