In order to improve the traffic situation in the German port of Bremerhaven, an unoccupied site has been transformed into an HGV park, reports German freight magazine DVZ.

BLG Automobile and D. Heinrichs Logistic have transformed an empty site at Bremerhaven close to the port where 120 lorries can park temporarily until they receive the green light from the port to enter the terminal.

While it is generally just an empty parking space, drivers can still find sanitary facilities there.

The idea originated from an initiative by the Bremen Senator for Ports, Claudia Schilling, and companies in the port and transport industry who had hoped a permanent solution would be developed by 2025 to solve the parking issues in the area.

“By working closely with the business sector, we can achieve a good solution in the short term that will directly relieve port traffic and at the same time we are planning for the long term; we are looking for a large, permanent perspective for solving the traffic problems in the port of Bremerhaven,” said Schilling.
