Have you ever felt drowsy behind the wheel? We have a solution. “Steer” is a wristband that senses the signs of driver’s fatigue and wakes him up by using … an electric impulse, effectively preventing the second nap.

Every fourth driver happened to fall asleep while driving – according to a study by the German Competence Center. According to experts, up to 40% of heavy accidents involving lorries occur because of the micro-naps. The British automotive magazine “What a car” states that driving a car under the influence of fatigue is as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol!

A device that will awaken everyone

“Steer” was created by Creative Mode from Latvia. Its operation is based on sixteen sensors located in the bracelet, which covers the wrist of the driver. The device has sensors installed in it based on modern technology, which analyze the pulse and the level of sweating on the skin surface of the driver. Based on this data, they recognize the state of drowsiness or a slower heartbeat. Then the device generates an electrical impulse, capable of waking everyone, but harmless to health.

This invention costs 170 euros and is powered by a battery charged every two weeks. It also has diodes which are an additional source of warning in the event of the life-threatening event. The orange light is a preliminary reminder and is accompanied only by a delicate vibration. The red diode lights up as a last resort, simultaneously with the electric impulse.

How to prevent micro-naps in a different way?

Window opening, loud music or conversation will not help. Experts advise that when you notice the first signs of drowsiness, such as yawning, heavy eyelids, chills, you should react. It is best to stop and take a “power nap”. It should last about 20 minutes. This is an effective way to regenerate, which will successfully replace unhealthy energy drinks or coffee.

In addition, experts advise that as part of “prevention” you should:

  • get enough sleep,
  • walks in the open air during breaks,
  • move as much as possible,
  • take care of the diet – heavy meals increase the feeling of tiredness, so it is worth reaching for easily digestible food.
