The coalition emphasises the strategic importance of a strong transport network in addressing Europe’s current challenges, including geopolitical concerns, environmental issues, and supply chain disruptions. They argue that recent crises have highlighted the crucial role of a resilient and adaptable transport sector in ensuring Europe’s response effectiveness.

The call for increased funding specifically focuses on supporting the transition towards a net-zero emissions economy and enabling road transport SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) to navigate operational hurdles, improve sustainability practices, and contribute to economic growth.

The coalition believes that greater EU investment is essential to bolster the resilience and efficiency of Europe’s transport infrastructure, ultimately benefiting both transport operators and the overall economic and sustainability goals of the EU.

Strong instruments like the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) are seen as key tools for unlocking the full potential of the transport sector, delivering high EU added value, and fostering a level playing field across Europe, according to the coalition.

UETR is pleased to join and support the campaign, stated UETR Secretary General Marco Digioia. In these challenging times, there’s a strong need to boost EU financial instruments to allow road hauliers to deliver goods and maintain their contribution to growth and jobs in an efficient and sustainable manner.

The coalition’s More EU Budget for Transport leaflet outlines their position in detail and will be officially presented to the European Commission on April 4th at the Connecting Europe Days event in Brussels.
