A police check in Welkenraedt (Liège, Belgium) has reportedly revealed how five Belarusian drivers were being exploited by the Lithuanian transport company UAB Kareda,  according to 7sur7.be.

It is claimed that the five drivers had not been paid for months and had no money with them. What’s more, they had been on the road non-stop for nine weeks.

The vehicles of the five were seized by the police due to multiple serious defects. For example, there were worn tires, a defective AdBlue system and problems with tachographs.

Transport company UAB Kareda has meanwhile been instructed to regularize the situation of the drivers and to fix the defects in the vehicles. So far without result. The Austrian transport company LKW Walter – as the main customer of UAB Kareda – was also asked to take up his responsibility, writes hln.be.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the road transport department at the European Transport Federation has stepped in to provide assistance to the stricken drivers.
