It is expected that the rest area on the A8 will be completed before the end of this year, bringing much needed parking capacity to the country. The site of the rest area is an old car park, so most of the construction work will concern the addition of modern infrastructure.

The rest area, exclusively for truck drivers, will utilise so-called “convoy parking” so as to maximise available space. In addition, the facility will have 10 chargers for electric trucks as well as power connections for refrigerated trucks. To further reduce CO2 emissions, power will be drawn from a solar panel on the roof of one the amenity buildings.

According to ASFINAG, the A8 Innkreis autobahn in Upper Austria is one of the transit axes with the highest proportion of HGV traffic in Austria.

“The new Hausruck Truck Stop is clearly characterized by increased road safety. But as one of our most important customer groups, it is also very important to us to offer truck drivers even more service and to respond to their needs. The results of comprehensive surveys of truck drivers were incorporated into the planning of the Hausruck Truck-Stop. And the topic of sustainability will also be a top priority here in the future,” say ASFINAG board members Hartwig Hufnagl and Josef Fiala.

As for driver facilities, ASFINAG writes the rest stop shall have a sufficient number of showers and toilets. On top this, there will be laundry facilities, vending machines, fitness equipment, a barbecue area, plus a building in which drivers can prepare meals.

When it comes to security, the parking area will be lit using LED lights, and CCTV cameras shall be in operation too. Finally, an emergency phone will be present on site for contacting the roads management authority.
