According to information provided by the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), toll rates in Germany will not change at the beginning of 2025. From July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025, a fixed fee schedule will apply in Germany in proportion to the distance traveled. Let us recall that German truck tolls have changed drastically over the past 12 months. On December 1, 2023, they increased by up to 83%, and from July 1, 2024, the range of vehicles subject to the toll was expanded and vehicles weighing from 3.5 to 7.5 tons were included in the toll payment system. Additionally, from January 1, 2024, CNG and LNG trucks are subject to tolls. Zero-emission vehicles belonging to CO2 emission group 5, such as electric cars and hydrogen-powered cars, as well as those powered by hydrogen fuel cells, are exempt from tolls on German roads. However, this exemption will expire at the end of 2025.
The end of the Eurovignette in Denmark
The Danish government, in turn, wants to accelerate the decarbonisation of transport and expects that the move from time-based vignettes to a mileage-based road toll system for heavy goods vehicles will be a giant step towards emission-free mobility. The toll is set to come into effect on January 1, 2025, and Sund & Bælt, the future operator of the toll system under the name KmToll, has already launched a website ( https://vejafgifter.dk/ ), where it provided information on the rates and penalties associated with the tolls in August. However, it turns out that the rates have changed and lower rates than previously planned will apply in Denmark from the beginning of next year.

The three tonnage classes, five CO2 emission classes, and division into standard zones (mainly motorways) and low-emission zones have not changed. The trend in changing the level of fees seems unusual – introducing a rate in ecological zones that is twice as low as the fees on motorways. The previous price list provided for fees in low-emission zones that were about 50 percent higher than the fees in standard zones, i.e., on motorways.
The amount of the penalty will not change either. Both Danish and foreign carriers will be punished in the event of failure to pay the fee. The penalty will be 4500 Danish kroner (approx 603 euros, or 500 GBP). A given vehicle can be “punished” with one ticket per day (24 hours).
