Romanian HGV driver “embarrassed” as transport boss transfers last payment in coins and low-denomination banknotes

A Romanian HGV driver has apparently faced disgrace at the hands of his employer after he handed in his resignation. In an act of apparent retribution, the driver claims his employer paid the outstanding salary in one leu coins and low-domination banknotes, seemingly intended to teach the driver a lesson.

According to the Romanian press, the driver said he had not received his initially negotiated salary, which led to his decision to resign. Naturally, he requested his rightful pay for the work rendered, but the employer chose to respond by giving him the outstanding amount solely in one leu coins and banknotes.

In an effort to prevent others from experiencing the same ordeal, the driver took to a Facebook group dedicated to truck drivers to share his story and warn his colleagues about the company. He wrote:

“Beware of company X, as during the hiring process, they promise a salary equivalent to the minimum wage, but in reality, they don’t pay the full amount, considerably less in fact. And when you resign, they find ways to deduct money from your payment. Furthermore, the employer’s mockery continues, as demonstrated by the salary given, as seen in the pictures below (one leu and fifty bani in a box). That’s how the 'gentleman’ believes people should receive their hard-earned money.”

Another employee corroborated the story, indicating that several dissatisfied drivers had already left the transport company due to the unfavourable conditions, an article by Stiri Diaspora reports.

The employee stated,

“Yes, indeed, be very cautious. This is the salary received from the so-called boss after our hard work, after our departure, and also after two other colleagues left the company. Hopefully, other colleagues will see this post…”

Fellow lorry drivers reacted to the situation, sending messages of support and encouragement, and the discussions prompted further revelations from other drivers who had also worked for the same company, suggesting that the employer had engaged in similar acts in the past.

It is important to note that these claims are based on the accounts provided by the drivers involved and have not been independently verified at this time, the news portal stresses. Efforts to contact the company for their response to the allegations have been unsuccessful thus far.
