Sanofi to outsource pharmaceutical distribution to DHL from mid-2024

In a bid to improve operational efficiency and focus on core activities, French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi is to outsource its pharmaceutical distribution operations in France to DHL, the company announced last week. The significant move, scheduled for mid-2024, will affect three key sites and 275 employees.

According to local press, Sanofi was quick to reassure stakeholders that the transfer “will have no impact on employment or the territories where the sites concerned are located”.

According to a Sanofi spokesperson, this outsourcing model is nothing new for the pharmaceutical giant: 85% of its global distribution network already uses a similar approach in countries such as Germany, Italy and the United States.

The effectiveness of this model is proven by other major pharmaceutical laboratories that also rely on outsourced distribution activities, Sanofi told the media.

This project is “strategic for the development of DHL in France in the healthcare sector”, said the global leader in the logistics chain, adding that its “effective implementation is planned for mid-2024”.

DHL will take over these activities by mid-2024.

The logistics company added that its Life Sciences division works for “more than 50 major players in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors” and has specialised logistics chains, healthcare cold chain management capabilities and an extensive global footprint.
