Shortened nightly closures of the Mont Blanc Tunnel from today

Due to faster-than-expected progress on renovations, the Mont Blanc Tunnel will have shorter nightly closures in June, the tunnel’s operator has announced.

Nightly closures for maintenance of the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be reduced by two hours from 3 June 2024. Initially planned for 12 hours and 30 minutes (from 19:00 to 07:30), the new closure schedule will see the tunnel closed from 19:30 to 06:00, for 10 hours and 30 minutes.

This change applies to all remaining nights scheduled for closure in June.

The current phase focuses on rehabilitating the concrete slab supporting the roadway in the tunnel’s central section. The faster completion of installing new slab elements reduces closure times.

However, a longer closure of 30 hours and 30 minutes will be required from 23:30 on Wednesday 19 June to 06:00 on Friday 21 June 2024. This extended closure will allow for final works such as waterproofing and the application of wearing surfaces.

The operator also reminds drivers of the planned complete closure of the tunnel for vault renovation, scheduled to begin on September 2nd, 2024, and last for 15 consecutive weeks.
