The operation took place last Sunday at the premises of the transport company in Merelbeke. Acting on behalf of the Ghent Labour Inspectorate, the Labour Inspectorate cooperated with the local police and the Federal Roads Police.

During the operation, five drivers employed by a Slovakian subcontractor of the Belgian transport company were discovered on site, having spent the weekend in the cabs of their lorries.

Six trucks were impounded as part of the operation, and the case is now under further investigation.

This concerted effort is part of a wider investigation into social dumping, local press adds.
