Alimerka now has a total of 21 all-electric trucks. In addition to these electric lorries, Alimerka’s fleet also sports 21 hybrid trucks and 33 lorries running on Liquefied Natural Gas – LNG.

The supermarket chain began the conversion of its truck fleet in 2015 and has spent more than 18 million euros on the upgrades to date.

By removing diesel vehicles to replace them with LNG-powered ones, Alimerka’s aim is to create a more sustainable fleet and minimise impacts on the environment. This step has already resulted in a 20% decrease in CO2 emissions.

The change also implied a reduction in noise pollution, since these trucks reduced noise by more than half compared to conventional vehicles.

To operate its sustainable fleet, the company has installed 19 Siemens charging points. These will allow the electric HGVs to cover a range of up to 350 kilometres.

All these measures are added to the steps taken in 2012, when Alimerka replaced its entire fleet of urban delivery vans with 100% electric vehicles.
