Ever wondered how huge figures, like the Jesus of Rio de Janeiro are transported? This passed summer, residents of the capital of Lebanon were also surprised by an unusual view – a huge figure of the saint passed through the city.

Measuring 23 meters and weighing 40 tonnes, the statue of Saint Charbel left Beirut on August 20, 2017. It was transported to the city of Faraya located at 1800 m above sea level, 50 km away from the capital city. It was quite a route for the multi-ton colossus.

The statue depicts Charbel Makhlouf, cleric of the Maronite Church, monk, hermit and saint of the Catholic Church. St. Charbel lived in seclusion and led an extremely ascetic lifestyle. He fasted and mortified himself, and spent the last 23 years of his life in the hermitage. In 1898, at the age of 70, he suffered a stroke while celebrating Mass. He died shortly thereafter.
