NTEX, which has rapidly expanded its operations throughout Europe, is recognised as one of Sweden’s leading transport companies. The company has a significant presence with 20 offices in 12 countries, employing more than 1,000 people. With an annual turnover of approximately SEK 4 billion (approximately €340 million), NTEX owns and leases a fleet of approximately 1,500 HGVs and operates 16 terminals and warehouses.

Stena first acquired a 75 per cent stake in NTEX in 2020, allowing it to gain considerable influence over the company’s operations. The recent acquisition of the remaining 25 per cent of shares in 2024 represents the culmination of this strategic investment, making Stena the sole owner of NTEX.

“NTEX is a fantastic company that is well established in both transport and logistics and that offers a complete solution to its customers,” commented Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line and chairman of the board of NTEX. “The main reason for this acquisition is that we wish to gain a greater understanding of how large transport companies operate in different markets. By owning and running companies, our understanding of our customers and where the market is going increases, which allows us to optimise Stena’s product portfolio.”

Thomas Ström, the founder and CEO of NTEX, expressed mixed emotions regarding the sale of his remaining shares.

“It is, of course, with mixed feelings that I am selling the remaining part of what I started and built up. I want to express my deep gratitude to all employees. It is an incredible group of people that I have had the honour to hire and work with, and their efforts have been critical to the success we have achieved.”

The acquisition remains subject to approval by relevant authorities.
