From next year, the Swedes will require that all commercial vehicles should have winter tyres installed on all axles. Currently, they are only mandatory on the driving axles.
The law, which modifies winter tire regulations in Sweden, will enter into force in June 2019. Under the new regulations, commercial vehicles traveling across the country must have winter tyres on all axles from the beginning of December to the end of March. Tomas Eneroth, the Swedish Minister for Infrastructure, explains that the decision has been made with a view of improving the safety on the roads.
I do not want to experience another winter when Swedish roads are blocked by vehicles that cannot cope with elevations,” stated Eneroth.
The domestic carrier association welcomed the government’s initiative. The organization, however, draws attention to the need to conduct controls and introduce sanctions for non-compliance with the new regulations.
