The Federal Office for Road Transport (Astra) has announced that the closure, like that of the A13, will remain in place until further notice.
Following further storms in Switzerland, one of the alternative routes on the A13 motorway was closed between Ried-Brig and the Simplon Pass due to a mudslide.
In addition to the Gotthard A2, the Simplon Pass previously served as a second alternative route for the San Bernardino route, which has been impassable since the previous weekend. Due to the rapid progress of the repair work, Astra now expects to be able to open the A13 – one lane in each direction – on Friday, 5 July.
