As reported by a Danish local newspaper, the case concerns a Lithuanian trucker who was found to have used his tachograph card while transporting goods in Denmark.

The lorry driver did not appear in court himself, but was found guilty of 21 offenses in total.

As explained by prosecutor Pernille Moesborg, road transport inspectors ordered the driver to stop at a rest area on Denmark’s Primary Route 18 motorway in November 2020.

During the subsequent check, it turned out that the Lithuanian had been using his father’s tachograph card. He was found to have done this on as many as 7 occasions so as to get round drivers’ hours rules.

As a result of those violations and 14 other driving offences, the truck driver was was sentenced to 30 days in prison and handed a total fine of DKK 40,750 (€5,478).

In addition, he was banned from driving HGVs in Denmark for 6 months, something made irrelevant by the fact he will also be deported following his prison sentence and banned from returning to the country for 6 years.

The trucker’s employer, also from Lithuania, had already been fined DKK 217,000 (€29,170) in connection with the tachograph fraud.
