German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has announced temporary border controls at the Franco-German border to increase security for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. The games run from 26 July to 11 August.
The interior ministry said the measures will be notified to the EU Commission shortly.
From 19 July, border controls set up during the UEFA European Football Championship will be lifted at the borders with Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The ministry said these areas will revert to covert surveillance with targeted controls.
However, Faeser confirmed that border controls would remain in place at Germany’s land borders with Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Poland.
