Tesla claim the truck can do 0-60 mph in 20 seconds thanks to instant traction control offered four by independent motors. The vehicle also comes with an autopilot to help avoid collisions, a centered driver position for better visibility and control, and a lower center of gravity for rollover protection.
The electric vehicle specialist says the electric energy costs for US hauliers are half those of diesel. This it is claimed, provides $200,000+ in fuel savings and a two-year payback period.
The vehicle is planned to go into production at some point this year, when it will go head-to-head with other electric HGVs produced by experienced lorry manufacturers.
