EETS or the European Electronic Toll System, was implemented at the end of last year. Currently on the market there are appearing the devices to operate this system.
The European toll is optional and complementary to electronic toll levied on toll roads. The drivers can therefore decide for themselves whether they want to use this options in the areas where the electronic toll systems exist. They will also be obliged to select the provider with which they will conclude an agreement.
This year a few devices entered the market that allow paying for the tolls in several countries. Check the differences between three devices offered by the manufacturers.
UTA One
This on-board unit operating in EETS system will work in seven countries: Austria, Italy, Belgium, Spain, France, Portugal and Poland (highway A4 on the section Kraków-Katowice). The operator announced that it will be available by the end of the first quarter, while in the second half of 2018 it is planned to broaden the scope of its activities to German highways. Next year Hungary, Slovenia and the rest of Poland (covered by viaToll system) will join this group of countries.
The device will be available to customers from the end of the first quarter of this year. There will be one agreement in force and one-time registration for the tolls systems in various countries. Additional services offered by this device are, among others, discounts and car parks payments. Over time additional options are to be implemented, such as telematics.
Vialtis telepass SAT
The range of the device covers the following countries: France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Portugal and Poland (A4 section Kraków – Katowice). The company is planning to expand the range of the device on Germany. To use the device you need to sign an agreement. Using the device is subject to a monthly subscription fee.
Additional features offered by the device include a possibility to pay for a car park and read the geographic GPS of the vehicle. Furthermore, the device is equipped with NFC technology and Bluetooth. The operator has also launched a website – Do MyVialtis, where customers can view the details of their invoices, payments and orders.
DKV Euro Box
DKV Euro Box first was introduced in Poland, Germany, Belgium, France and Austria. Next, the device’s range will also include Italy, Portugal, Spain and Hungary. According to the company, the users will be able to install the device and transfer it between their vehicles. (The connection will be possible using the Plug and Play technology without the need to install the device in specialised workshops.) Additional options available will be online registration, wireless configuration and manual defining the number of axis of the device board. The manufacturer took care of numerous functions of planning and analysis of routes. To use the device you need to sign an agreement.
