TIP Group and DSV, following similar projects in 2023 and 2024, will refurbish 500 Schmitz Huckepack trailers in 2025, extending their operational lifespan and ensuring continued use on DSV’s European routes. The initiative follows the refurbishment of 1,100 trailers in 2023 and 991 trailers in 2024.
According to TIP Group, refurbishing trailers instead of replacing them significantly reduces carbon emissions. The 2025 program is expected to save an estimated 8,000 tonnes of CO2 over the extended use period of the trailers. For comparison, the refurbishment process for a single curtainsider trailer generates approximately 2.7 tonnes of CO2, including materials and energy used, compared to the emissions associated with manufacturing a new trailer.
This process will double the lifespan of each trailer, allowing them to operate for an additional six years in DSV’s fleet after their initial five years of use. This reduces the need for new investments and contributes to long-term fleet value.
The partnership also involves enhanced maintenance programs across Europe to minimize downtime and maximize trailer productivity.
“We are proud to add a new chapter to our longstanding collaboration with DSV. Refurbishment supports DSV’s sustainability ambitions and optimizes their fleet performance,” commented Arjen Kraaij, Deputy CEO of TIP Group.
Flemming Steiness, Managing Director of DSV Global Equipment Services, added:
“Refurbishing trailers is a practical way to cut emissions while maintaining high-quality service. Circular economy initiatives like this are essential to lowering our carbon footprint.”
