Traffic bans in France in 2018

Check which days and on which roads heavy goods vehicles cannot move in France. In addition to general and permanent restrictions, additional bans must be taken into account.

French traffic bans cover lorries and vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes, with the exception of special vehicles and agricultural vehicles.

General traffic bans are valid from 22:00 on Saturdays and the eve of holidays until 22:00 on a Sunday or holiday:

– March 31 from 22:00 to 24:00,

– April 1 (Easter) from 0:00 to 24:00,

– April 2 (Easter) from 0:00 to 22,

– May 1 (Labor Day) from 0:00 to 22:00

– 7 May * from 22:00 to 24:00

– May 8 (Victory Day) from 0:00 to 22:00,

– 9 May * from 22:00 to 24:00

– 10 May (Ascension) from 0:00 to 22:00,

– May 19 from 22:00 to 24:00,

– May 20 (Pentecost) from 0:00 to 24:00,

– May 21 (Pentecost) from 0:00 to 22:00,

– 13 July from 22:00 to 24:00,

– July 14 (National Day of France) from 0:00 to 24:00,

– August 14 from 22 to 24:00,

– August 15 (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) from 0:00 to 22:00,

– October 31 from 22:00 to 24:00,

– November 1 (All Saints Day) from 0:00 to 22:00,

– 10 November from 22 to 24 hours

– November 11 (Remembrance Day) from 0:00 to 22,

– 24 December from 22:00 to 24:00,

– December 25 (Christmas) from 0:00 to 22:00,

– December 31 from 22:00 to 24:00.

Additional traffic bans

In France, additional restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles should also be taken into account, i.e. winter and summer ban. The first one concerns only some of the roads in the Rhône-Alpes region and was valid on some Saturdays in February and March (the last ban was on March 10). The summer ban applies to all roads in France and will be valid on July 21 and 28 and on August 4, 11 and 18 from 7:00 to 19:00.

Traffic bans in Île-de-France

In addition to general and additional bans, other restrictions are introduced in the Île-de-France region. They include specific roads on certain days and hours, depending on the direction:

Direction from Paris:

– Fridays from 16:00 to 21:00,

– on the eve of public holidays from 16:00 to 24:00,

– Saturdays from 10 to 18 and from 22:00 to 24:00,

– Sundays and holidays from 0:00 to 24:00.

Direction to Paris:

– Saturdays and eve of public holidays from 22:00 to 24:00,

– Sundays and public holidays from 0:00 to 24:00,

– Mondays and day after a public holiday from 6:00 to 10:00.

Prohibitions in Île-de-France concern the following sections of motorways:

– A6a, A6b from the Paris beltway to the intersection with the A6 and A10 motorways (Wissous municipality),

– A106 from the intersection with A6b to Orly airport,

– A6 from the intersection with A6a and A6b to the intersection with RN 104-Est / East (municipality of Lisses),

– A10 from the intersection with A6a and A6b to RN20 (Champlan commune),

– A12 from the intersection with the A13 motorway (Rocquencourt triangle) to RN10 (Montigny-le-Bretonneux municipality),

– A13 from the Paris Bypass to the Poissy-Orgeval junction (Orgeval municipality).

Permanent traffic bans

For safety reasons, truck traffic is banned on some roads in France.

Île-De-France

– A14 tunnel under La Défense.

Eastern France

– national road N59 between Lunéville (54) and Sélestat (67) a ban on all vehicles in transit with weighing over 3.5 tonnes,

– national road N66 – ban for vehicles over 3.5 tons between Remiremont (88) and Cernay (68); prohibition for vehicles over 19 tonnes between 6:00 and 22:00, with a loading or unloading point in Lorraine (Lorraine) or Alsace (Alsace).

Northern France:

– A22 motorway (12 km), national road N356 (5 km), national road N227 (3 – 4 km) ban for vehicles in transit exceeding 3.5 tons going down from the A1 motorway and heading north.

Southern France:

– A557 motorway forbidden for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, from the exit Arenc (13) to Les Ports, moving from A7 to A55,

– A55 motorway (4 km) for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in Marseille (13), between the intersection of Vieux Port and the Cap Pinède intersection,

– motorway connection A50 (Toulon est / Toulon east) and A57 (Toulon ouest / Toulon west) – Toulon tunnel (83) – forbidden heavy goods vehicles over 19 tons going to Marseille,

– A8 motorway – a 24-hour ban on the carriage of ethylene oxide by road on the A8 motorway section between the toll point in Antibes and Italy. For this type of transport, the sea route Lavera – Tavazzano is recommended,

– national road N7 – ban on vehicles over 6 tonnes on the transit route through the Orange agglomeration (84), between the intersection with RD976 and the intersection with RD950; a ban on vehicles over 16 tonnes on the transit route leading through the Mondragon agglomeration (84),

– national road N85 – no vehicles over 26 tons (not equipped with speed reducers) on the border between the departments of Isère [38] and Hautes Alpes [05] and the city of Gap,

– national road N580 prohibiting traffic of vehicles over 25 tons in Avignon (84), on bridges “Royaume” and “Daladier”,

– N94 national road – Col du Montgenèvre (Hautes Alpes department): no vehicles over 26 tons; a ban on vehicles over 26 tons on main roads (not equipped with speed reducers) between the southern roundabout Embruns (department Hautes-Alpes) and the border with Italy.

Southeastern France:

– A7 and A6 motorways (25 km) between Ternay (69) and Anse (69),

– national road N205 (Mont-Blanc tunnel) – no vehicles moving dangerous goods and vehicles with a height exceeding 4.7 m,

– A43 motorway, Fréjus tunnel, forbidden to move vehicles carrying dangerous goods of class 1, vehicles with a DMC above 3.5 t EURO classes 0, 1, 2 and 3 and vehicles with a height exceeding 4.3 m,

– A47 motorway – no traffic on the interconnecting section A47 (westbound) and A7 towards the center of Lyons (intersection Ternay (69),

– national road N7 – no vehicles in excess of 6 tonnes, between 22:00 and 6:00, in Tain l’Hermitage (26); vehicle traffic ban more than 3.5 tons southbound, between Vienne (38) and Roussillon toll station,

– N85 Laffrey state road – no vehicles with a DMC of over 7.5 tons,

– the Northern Bypass of Lyon (69) – traffic ban exceeding 3.5 m, and vehicles over 19 tons and lorries carrying hazardous materials,

– Fourvière tunnel (69) for vehicles with a height exceeding 4.5 m, weighing over 7.5 t and for trucks carrying hazardous materials.
