A trucker suffered a day to forget yesterday after crashing into the offices of the Swiss Traffic Police as a result of forgetting to retract the crane he was transporting.

According to a statement from the Schaffhausen Police Department, the truck had come from a freight yard and was heading in the direction of Emmersbergstrasse.

However, the truck’s loading crane was not retracted properly. As a consequence, when the truck drove under an elevated section of the police station that crosses the road, the crane smashed into the building.

Fortunately, nobody was injured due to the accident. The impact nonetheless caused considerable damage to the building.

A witness quoted by Swiss news website 20min.ch claims that the “building shook” on impact and that the driver was heard repeatedly swearing after the accident. The trucker reportedly called the authorities almost immediately, although they didn’t need telling given the accident had occurred at their own office.

The exact cause of the accident and the extent of the damage is now subject to an ongoing police investigation.
