Almost half a year after the bridge was officially opened to car traffic, heavier vehicles are now finally allowed.

Russia opened the Crimean Bridge to truck traffic. Although part of the object intended for vehicular traffic was commissioned in mid-May this year, lorries had to use the ferry.

Trucks have arrived on the bridge this Monday – Russian media report. Since its opening, according to official data, about 2.8 million vehicles have passed over the bridge. In December next year, the facility will be opened for rail traffic.

A great show of possibilities

The construction of the Crimean bridge was not only dictated by the need to improve communication between the continental part of Russia and the annexed peninsula. Many experts believe that such an expensive project (worth over 3 billion euros) in a poor region is only a demonstration of Moscow’s strength and capabilities.
