Two truckers charged after lorry park fight involving a knife and a hammer

Two lorry drivers have been arrested after injuring each other during an ugly fight at a Tyrol rest area that escalated to the point a hammer and a knife were used.

According to Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung, the fight broke out at a lorry park near Radfeld in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein on Sunday night. A 41-year-old Turk and a 51-year-old Bulgarian were involved.

The police statement on the incident says that the two men who had spent the weekend together at the lorry park, but started arguing with each other at 3:30 am after drinking a lot of alcohol.

At first, the argument was only verbal, but it heightened so much that the pair reached for items to use as weapons. One took a knife, the other a hammer.

The Bulgarian reportedly injured the Turk using a knife in the area of ​​his right index finger and also severely kicked him in the knee area. The Turk, on the other hand, attacked his opponent with a hammer – injuring the Bulgarian “on the forehead, both elbows and knees.”

The Bulgarian driver was taken to the Kufstein district hospital with the ambulance. The Turkish driver refused medical treatment.

Both the knife and the hammer were seized by the police and the two men were reported to the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office.
