The driver claims he had no idea that one of the tyres on his trailer had exploded, despite the fact a wheel rim on the trailer was scraping against the ground as he drove down the motorway.
Photos shared by the Slovenian police show that the affected rim was falling apart due to the tyre explosion and constant exposure to the road surface.
Police report that the Romanian driver had fitted inadequate tyres to the trailer, a mistake that caused the explosion and was set to trigger another blowout had the van not been stopped.
The trailer, stuffed with construction materials, was of course deemed a hazard to the driver and other road users.
An on-the-spot fine of an undisclosed amount was handed to the Romanian national, while the vehicle was not able to continue its journey until all its faults had been remedied.
