Waberer’s Group will acquire a majority stake of 55 per cent in MD International (MDI), the leading player in the Serbian FMCG distribution market, with an option to acquire the remaining 45 per cent.

MDI’s main activities are domestic distribution, road transport and warehousing. In 2022, the Serbian company had revenues of €50.3 million, EBIT of €2.1 million and profit after tax of €1.7 million.

The transaction will be financed by Waberer’s from the 2022 bond issue, in line with the objectives set at the time of the bond issue.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Under the terms of the transaction agreement, the owners of Waberer’s and MDI have agreed to cooperate on further developments and investments, including the planned joint development of a warehouse, which will provide the basis for further growth and more efficient logistics operations.

Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of Waberer’s International Plc, said that the acquisition of a majority stake in MDI is the first significant step towards becoming the region’s leading provider of complex logistics services. Barna adds that Waberer’s has a strong track record in complex logistics services in Hungary, which it intends to expand regionally through acquisitions in the future.
