The photos showing dozens of trucks of Waberer’s, the Hungarian transportation company, parked on the fields in the Netherlands and Belgium, caused a great stir on the Internet. It is a hot topic not only on the Hungarian Facebook, where plenty of comments appeared, but also in Western Europe.

In the period between Christmas and the New Year, social media reported that Waberer’s left a few hundred of trucks in the fields, outside the official car parks.

About 300 trucks of Waberer’s Transport from Budapest / Hungary, which drive across all the countries of Europe are parked in the Netherlands … and the drivers went home for Christmas … It will be very difficult for the Western European transport companies to compete with them, because they are cheaper, and we are too expensive … „- Rinus Rynart, the director of the Dutch company Rynart Trucking+Trading posted on his Facebook profile.

Also, a lot of people commented that the trucks of the Hungarian company were parked there illegally. We decided to verify it and our Hungarian journalist asked Waberer’s why the cars had been grouped in two places in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Waberer’s left a few hundred of trucks due to the lack of return loads

According to the answers of the Hungarian company, it leased two squares for parking the trucks. One was leased in the Belgian commune of Opglabbeek from the company JET Transporten and the second in the area of the Dutch Eersel – under the contract with KLG Europe.

Our partners have provided all the necessary permits for our trucks, which in both cases are located outside the agricultural crops”- Waberer’s explained.

The Hungarian decided for this solution because many of their cars were carrying out deliveries before Christmas to the customers in Western Europe. However, the trucks had no loads on their way back. Therefore, for the duration of the Christmas break the carrier gathered them in Opglabbeek and Eersel, so that the drivers could spend Christmas with their families. At the same time the company avoided empty runs.

The faster and more comfortable return of our colleagues from the Western Europe during the holiday season was provided by buses, which also reduced the movement of trucks on the European roads”- Waberer’s responded.

And what do you think of the actions of the Hungarians? Did they do the right thing?
