Last Saturday, an Austrian road police patrol ordered a truck driver to pull over as the ruined trailer he was hauling represented a road hazard.

The wrecked trailer was spotted on the A2 in the direction of Graz just after 11am.

The officers escorted the truck to a nearby motorway parking area and carried out an inspection on the lorry driver, as well as the vehicle and trailer itself.

According to the police, the 30-year-old Serbian trucker stated that he had received an order from his company to fetch the damaged Turkish trailer from Slovakia, where it had been involved in an accident. The driver claims he was under orders to haul the truck all the way to Trieste, where it was to be shipped to Turkey by ferry.

However, the police naturally deemed the trailer to be road hazard, so it was banned from the road and had its licence plate removed. A security deposit was also collected, while both the driver and haulier are set to face charges.
