In May last year, Germany imposed a ban on taking the 45-hour rest in the cabin. In September, officials from the Federal Office of Commodity Transport (BAG) started inspections in this area. We know how many drivers have been punished in the last five months.
At the beginning of September, the information campaign ended and the BAG officers started inspections for the ban on cabin accommodation. The German portal eurotransport.de provides information on the results of their activities.
During the last 5 months, the agents of the German office have inspected 2485 vehicles and/or drivers on Sundays. They found 53 offenses, that is, the ban was broken by only 2.1 percent of truckers. During their activities on Mondays, the officials have detected 48 violations, and from Tuesdays to Saturdays, a total of 64.
Poor BAG’s work results
165 offenses detected in 5 months is a rather unimpressive result, considering the loudly announced „fight against the nomadism on the German highways.” The only question is whether it is a matter of the cunning of the drivers, or the ineptitude of the office which has too few employees to be able to fulfill its obligations.
