December lorry bans: See where and when they apply

Lorry traffic restrictions will be in force in most European countries due to Christmas and New Year. Besides regular weekend traffic bans, festive restrictions will soon take effect in many regions.

Additionally, Austria and Italy celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 8 December. However, this year it falls on a Sunday, when standard weekend bans already apply (00:00 to 22:00 in Austria and 09:00 to 22:00 in Italy).

24 December (Tuesday, Christmas Eve)

Croatia: 15:00 to 23:00. Restrictions apply to all vehicles and convoys over 7.5 tonnes.
Czech Republic: 13:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to heavy goods vehicles and convoys over 7.5 tonnes.
France: 22:00 to 00:00. No vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are allowed on the roads.
Hungary: 22:00 to 00:00. A ban on trucks and agricultural tractors with trailers over 7.5 tonnes.
Luxembourg: restrictions apply to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, with or without trailers.

  • 21:30 to 00:00 on all roads towards France.
  • 23:30 to 00:00 on all roads towards Germany.

Slovakia: 00:00 to 22:00. Applies to trucks and convoys over 7.5 tonnes.


25 December (Wednesday, Christmas Day)

Austria: 00:00 to 22:00. Ban on tractors with trailers over 3.5 tonnes and trucks/articulated vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.
Croatia: 14:00 to 23:00.
Czech Republic: 13:00 to 22:00.
France: 00:00 to 24:00.
Germany: 00:00 to 22:00. Applies to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and lorries with trailers.
Hungary: 00:00 to 24:00.
Italy: 09:00 to 22:00.
Luxembourg:

  • 00:00 to 24:00 towards France.
  • 00:00 to 21:45 and 23:30 to 00:00 towards Germany.

Poland: 08:00 to 22:00. Ban on trucks over 12 tonnes.
Slovakia: 00:00 to 22:00.
Slovenia: 08:00 to 22:00. Applies to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.
Switzerland: 00:00 to 24:00. Applies to trucks over 3.5 tonnes.


26 December (Thursday, Boxing Day)

Austria: 00:00 to 22:00.
Croatia: 14:00 to 23:00.
Czech Republic: 13:00 to 22:00.
Germany: 00:00 to 22:00.
Hungary: 00:00 to 22:00.
